Community Vascular Screening Event – Bowie, MD | October 2025
WellSpring Health Outreach recently hosted a free community event in Bowie, Maryland, focused on raising awareness about vascular health and the importance of early detection. During the event, we offered Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) screening, a quick, non-invasive test that measures blood flow in the arms and legs and helps detect peripheral arterial disease (PAD) early.
Our mission is to make preventive healthcare more accessible and to empower individuals with the knowledge they need to take charge of their health. This outreach event was made possible through collaboration with Fountain Community Enrichment, Prince George’s County Police District II, and the City of Bowie Police, whose partnership helped us reach more members of the community and provide vital health information and resources.
One-Week Health Outreach Mission in Nigeria - July 2026
In July 2026, WellSpring Health Outreach will launch a weeklong medical mission in Lagos, Nigeria, focusing on communities where access to essential health services is limited.
During this mission, our team will provide:
Free vascular & heart health screenings
Diabetes & blood pressure checks
Mental health support and counseling
Wellness education and nutrition guidance
First aid and emergency response training
Our goal is to serve at least 500 individuals, empowering them with the knowledge and tools to take charge of their health and well-being. This initiative is part of our broader effort to bring preventive care and wellness resources to underserved communities both locally and globally.
Why Nigeria?
Nigeria faces significant public health challenges:
Limited access to preventive healthcare and screenings
An overburdened medical infrastructure
Low levels of health education, especially in underserved areas
Stigma surrounding mental health, with few affordable resources
As a result, many people never receive basic screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, or heart disease, conditions that often go undetected until they become life-threatening.
With roots in Nigeria, I feel a deep personal calling to give back. By focusing on Lagos Mainland, we aim to provide compassionate, accessible care while equipping individuals with the knowledge they need to make informed health decisions.
Focus Areas
Vascular & Heart Health Screening – Early detection of circulation issues, aneurysms, and heart disease to reduce life-threatening risks.
Blood Pressure Checks – Quick, simple checks to identify hypertension, one of the leading preventable causes of stroke and heart attack.
Diabetes Screening (Blood Glucose) – On-the-spot testing to detect elevated blood sugar and prevent long-term complications.
Mental Health Awareness & Education – Breaking stigma and connecting individuals with resources for stress, anxiety, and emotional well-being.
General Health Education – Equipping communities with practical knowledge to manage and prevent common health challenges.
Nutrition & Healthy Eating Habits – Guidance on balanced diets, portion control, and affordable food choices that support wellness.
Exercise & Movement Coaching – Encouraging active living through simple, sustainable movement routines tailored for all ages.
Healthy Hygiene & Self-Care – We will provide care bags filled with practical essentials to support daily wellness, self-care, and preventive health. These bags are designed to promote dignity, confidence, and healthier living.
Basic First Aid Awareness – Empowering individuals to respond confidently to everyday injuries and emergencies.
Location
The outreach will be held on Lagos Mainland at a community-based venue (such as a school, church, or community center) chosen to ensure:
Accessibility – Easily reached on foot and by public transportation
Safety – A secure, well-maintained area with good road acces
Proximity – Close to underserved neighborhoods where the need is greatest
Capacity – Sufficient space to host multiple screening stations, group education sessions, and community gatherings
Community Connection – A familiar, trusted local setting that encourages participation and builds a welcoming atmosphere
Target Participants
Our outreach mission is designed to reach those who need it most, including:
Adults aged 40 and older and seniors in low-income neighborhoods
Community members who may have never had access to preventive screenings or health counseling
All participants at no cost. This event is fully free and open to the public
By removing financial barriers, we aim to make preventive care accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to every individual in the community.
