City of Bowie Cardiovascular Screening Initiative - Spring 2026
Partnering to Protect Hearts in Our Community
WellSpring Health Outreach is honored to partner with the City of Bowie to provide free preventive cardiovascular screenings to residents ages 40 and older through the City’s Community Outreach Grant.
This initiative supports early detection of stroke and heart disease risk and expands access to prevention services within the community.
The Carotid Artery Screening Day has been successfully completed, and appointments for the upcoming Echocardiogram Screening Day on April 25, 2026 are fully booked due to strong community response.
What the Program Includes
Participants receive non-invasive cardiovascular screening evaluations that may include:
Carotid Artery Ultrasound Screening
Helps identify plaque buildup associated with stroke risk.
Echocardiogram (Heart Ultrasound)
Evaluates heart function
Who Is Eligible
This program is available to:
City of Bowie residents
Ages 40 and above
Why These Screenings Matter
Cardiovascular disease often develops silently, without early symptoms. By providing convenient and free access to screenings, we give residents the chance to:
Detect risk factors early
Prevent heart attack or stroke
Understand their health better
Take proactive steps toward long-term wellness
Prevention is powerful, and early knowledge can save lives.
Our March 7, 2026 Carotid Screening Event was completed successfully, and we are excited to continue serving residents during the upcoming April 25 Echocardiogram Screening Event.
Additional screening opportunities will be announced soon. Follow us on social media for updates.

Community Vascular Screening Event - Bowie, Maryland
October 2025
WellSpring Health Outreach hosted a free community vascular screening event in Bowie, Maryland, focused on increasing awareness about vascular health and the importance of early detection.
During the event, participants received Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) screenings, a simple, non-invasive test used to assess circulation in the arms and legs and help identify early signs of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD).
This outreach initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to making preventive cardiovascular screening more accessible and empowering individuals with the knowledge they need to take proactive steps toward protecting their health.
The event was made possible through collaboration with:
Fountain Community Enrichment
Prince George’s County Police District II
City of Bowie Police Department
whose partnership helped expand community access to screening services and prevention education.
Together, we continue building stronger, healthier communities through early detection and prevention
One-Week Health Outreach Mission in Nigeria - Summer 2026
In the summer of 2026, WellSpring Health Outreach will launch a one-week preventive cardiovascular screening mission in Lagos, Nigeria, focusing on communities where access to early detection services is limited.
During this mission, our team will provide free preventive cardiovascular screening evaluations, which will include:
Stroke-risk screening through carotid artery evaluation
Aneurysm-risk screening through abdominal aortic assessment
Peripheral arterial circulation screening of the lower extremities
Focused cardiac ultrasound to assess heart structure and function
Community-based cardiovascular wellness education
During this outreach mission, our goal is to perform 300 to 500 preventive cardiovascular screening evaluations over five screening days, expanding access to early detection services for stroke risk, heart disease, aneurysm risk, and circulation-related conditions.
This initiative reflects our broader commitment to expanding access to prevention services both locally and globally.
Why Nigeria?
Nigeria faces a growing burden of stroke, hypertension, heart disease, and circulation-related conditions, many of which go undetected until serious complications occur. Studies show that hypertension affects roughly one-third of adults in Nigeria and remains a major contributor to stroke and cardiovascular disease, while access to preventive screening services remains limited in many communities.
Key challenges include:
Limited access to preventive cardiovascular screenings
Delayed diagnosis due to resource constraints
Increasing rates of non-communicable diseases
Limited community access to prevention-focused health education
As a result, many individuals do not receive early screening for stroke risk, aneurysm risk, or other vascular disease until symptoms appear, when treatment becomes more complex and outcomes are less favorable.
With personal roots in Nigeria, this mission reflects a deep commitment to giving back through early detection and prevention. By focusing on Lagos Mainland, WellSpring Health Outreach aims to expand access to preventive cardiovascular screening and community-based education while helping individuals make informed decisions about protecting their long-term health.
Together, this effort supports a broader vision of building a stronger culture of prevention, both locally and globally
Focus Areas
Preventive Cardiovascular Screening
Early detection of stroke risk, circulation problems, aneurysm risk, and heart disease through non-invasive screening evaluations designed to identify silent conditions before serious complications develop.
Cardiovascular Prevention Education
Providing practical, community-based education that helps individuals understand stroke risk factors, blood pressure awareness, and lifestyle habits that support long-term heart and vascular health.
Nutrition & Healthy Eating Habits
Guidance on balanced diets, portion awareness, and affordable food choices that support cardiovascular wellness and sustainable healthy living.
Movement & Active Living Support
Encouraging simple, realistic movement routines that promote circulation, heart health, and long-term wellness across all age groups.
Healthy Hygiene & Self-Care Support
Distribution of care bags containing practical wellness essentials that support daily hygiene, dignity, and preventive health practices within the communities we serve.
Outreach Location Strategy
The outreach will take place on Lagos Mainland at a community-based venue such as a hospital or health center, carefully selected to support safe, accessible, and effective service delivery. Site selection will prioritize:
Accessibility
A location that is easily reachable by foot and public transportation for surrounding community members.
Safety
A secure and well-maintained environment with reliable road access for participants, staff, and equipment.
Proximity to Underserved Communities
Close access to neighborhoods where preventive cardiovascular screening services are limited.
Capacity for Screening Activities
Adequate space to support multiple screening stations, participant flow, and small-group education sessions.
Community Trust and Engagement
A familiar and respected local setting that encourages participation and supports a welcoming outreach atmosphere.
Continuity of Care and Referral Pathways
Participants identified with elevated cardiovascular risk will be referred for appropriate medical consultation and follow-up care through local healthcare partners to support timely evaluation and management.
Target Participants
Our outreach mission is designed to reach individuals who face the greatest barriers to accessing preventive cardiovascular screening services, including:
Adults aged 40 years and older, particularly those living in underserved or low-income communities
Community members who may have never received preventive cardiovascular screening or early risk assessment for stroke, heart disease, or circulation-related conditions
All screening services provided during this outreach will be offered at no cost to participants.
By removing financial barriers, WellSpring Health Outreach aims to make early detection services more accessible, inclusive, and welcoming, helping individuals take proactive steps toward protecting their long-term cardiovascular health
Impact Goals
During our one-week outreach mission in Lagos, Nigeria, WellSpring Health Outreach aims to:
Perform 300–500 preventive cardiovascular screening evaluations over five screening days
Provide structured screening for stroke risk, aneurysm risk, peripheral circulation disease, and heart function
Expand access to early detection services in communities with limited screening opportunities
Deliver community-based education on stroke and heart disease prevention
Share practical guidance on nutrition, movement, and sustainable healthy lifestyle habits
Distribute care bags containing basic wellness and self-care essentials to support preventive health practices
Through this initiative, we aim to strengthen awareness of cardiovascular risk factors and support earlier identification of conditions that often go undetected until complications occur.
