Nigeria Community Cardiovascular Screening Initiative

Expanding Access to Cardiovascular Prevention in Lagos, Nigeria
In July 2026, WellSpring Health Outreach completed a multi-site cardiovascular screening initiative in Lagos, Nigeria, bringing preventive screening and health education directly to communities, workplaces, and community-based locations.
Over the course of the outreach, our team provided over 400 individuals with access to cardiovascular risk screening and practical health education focused on early detection and prevention.
> 400 People Reached
Participants received cardiovascular risk assessments and education designed to increase awareness of conditions that can contribute to heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular complications.
Screening activities included:
Blood pressure assessment
Cardiovascular risk evaluation
Preventive health education
Education on hypertension, stroke, and heart disease
Guidance for participants with findings requiring additional medical evaluation
One of the most important observations from the outreach was the high number of participants with elevated blood pressure, including younger adults who may not have been aware of their cardiovascular risk.
Participants with concerning findings were encouraged to seek appropriate medical follow-up and, when indicated, were referred for further evaluation.
The Nigeria outreach reinforced an important part of WellSpring's mission: prevention must reach people where they are.
By bringing screening and education directly into community and workplace settings, we were able to engage individuals who may not routinely seek preventive cardiovascular services.
The experience also strengthened our commitment to expanding community-based prevention efforts both in the United States and internationally.

Partnering to Advance Cardiovascular Prevention in Our Community
In Spring 2026, WellSpring Health Outreach partnered with the City of Bowie through the City's Community Outreach Grant to provide free preventive cardiovascular screenings to eligible Bowie residents ages 40 and older.
The initiative was designed to expand access to early cardiovascular risk identification and provide residents with an opportunity to better understand their heart and vascular health.
Both screening events were successfully completed, with strong community participation.
Residents received access to non-invasive cardiovascular screening services during two dedicated screening events:
Carotid Artery Ultrasound Screening - March 7, 2026
Evaluated the carotid arteries for plaque and other findings that may be associated with increased stroke risk.
Echocardiogram Screening - April 25, 2026
Provided an ultrasound assessment of selected aspects of heart structure and function.
Participants also received cardiovascular health education and guidance regarding appropriate follow-up when findings warranted further medical evaluation.
The Spring 2026 initiative was available to:
City of Bowie residents
Adults ages 40 and older
Cardiovascular conditions and their risk factors can sometimes develop without noticeable symptoms. Improving access to preventive screening can help individuals become aware of potential concerns earlier and take appropriate next steps with their healthcare providers.
Through this initiative, WellSpring Health Outreach helped residents:
Learn more about their cardiovascular health
Identify potential risk factors or findings that may require further evaluation
Increase awareness of heart disease and stroke prevention
Understand the importance of appropriate medical follow-up
Take a more proactive role in their long-term health
The completion of the Spring 2026 City of Bowie Cardiovascular Screening Initiative represents an important step in WellSpring Health Outreach's commitment to bringing preventive cardiovascular services directly into the communities we serve.
We are grateful to the City of Bowie for supporting this initiative and helping expand access to cardiovascular prevention within the community.
Prevention starts with awareness. Early identification creates an opportunity to act.

Columbia, Maryland | April 2026
In April 2026, WellSpring Health Outreach participated in the Bloom Into Better Health Health & Fitness Fair, hosted by Jesus House DC in collaboration with the Rapha Health & Fitness Ministry.
Held at the Sofive Soccer Center in Columbia, Maryland, the community event welcomed more than 350 attendees and brought together health, wellness, and preventive resources for individuals and families.
During the event, WellSpring Health Outreach provided Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) ultrasound screenings and education about AAA risk and the importance of early detection.
AAA can develop without noticeable symptoms. Ultrasound screening provides a quick, non-invasive way to evaluate the abdominal aorta for enlargement and identify individuals who may require further medical evaluation.
Through screening and one-on-one education, participants had an opportunity to:
Learn about AAA and associated risk factors
Receive a non-invasive ultrasound screening
Better understand the importance of cardiovascular prevention
Receive guidance regarding appropriate medical follow-up when needed
Beyond providing screenings, the event gave our team an opportunity to have meaningful conversations about cardiovascular health and introduce community members to a preventive screening that many had never received before.
By bringing these services into an accessible community setting, WellSpring Health Outreach continued its mission of making early risk identification and cardiovascular health education more accessible.
We are grateful to Jesus House DC and the Rapha Health & Fitness Ministry for the opportunity to participate in this community health initiative and serve alongside organizations committed to improving community wellness.

Bowie, Maryland | October 2025
Bringing Vascular Health Awareness Into the Community
In October 2025, WellSpring Health Outreach provided free community vascular screenings in Bowie, Maryland, focused on increasing awareness of vascular health, Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), and the importance of early risk identification.
During the event, participants received Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) screenings, a simple, non-invasive assessment that compares blood pressure at the ankle with blood pressure in the arm to help identify signs of reduced blood flow associated with Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD).
Participants also received education about vascular health, PAD risk factors, and the importance of appropriate medical follow-up when concerns are identified.
By bringing vascular screening directly into a community setting, WellSpring Health Outreach provided participants with an opportunity to learn more about their circulation and better understand cardiovascular risk factors that may otherwise go unrecognized.
This initiative reflects our continued commitment to making preventive cardiovascular services more accessible and helping individuals take informed, proactive steps toward their health.
This event was made possible through collaboration with:
Fountain Community Enrichment
Prince George’s County Police District II
City of Bowie Police Department
We are grateful for their support in helping connect community members with preventive screening and health education.
